Need help!

The boys have been sleeping through the night since about 9weeks old.  We then transition them to their cribs at 12 weeks, no issues.  Stopped swaddling around the same time - had a few rough nights.

But now- Harrison is waking almost every hour after 2 a.m.  He's happy and squirrely.  I try to just pat him and give him his nook but that doesn't work so I pick him up and rock him to sleep.  Then an hour later we repeat.  I'm exhausted please help!

Re: Need help!

  • We had this with DD around 5 1/2 months.  We talked to the pedi about it at our 6 month visit and she said to let her go in her crib and put herself back to sleep.  We had a few rough nights of her crying a fair amount but she is good at it now.  She usually wakes up most nights a few times a night and cries for a little bit.  If she goes more than 10 minutes we go in and give her a pacifier and change her diaper.  Otherwise, she just puts herself back to sleep.

The other thing to consider is if he is getting enough to eat during the day.   If he doesn't seem to be hungry in the night though I wouldn't worry to much about that.

  • if he is waking up happy - why are you going in there? Just let him be unless he fusses - a lot.... babies are not sound sleepers all night - they wake a little here and there- just like we do.... we know to just lay down and go back to sleep- but babies still need to learn that.... and they will only learn it if you leave them alone.

i don't go into the nursery unless someone is REALLY fussing... they wake and talk and fuss a little all the time - and then just go back to sleep on their own.

  • I didn't explain it well, he will be crying and fussing and then when we go in there he is all smiles! It's mainly Harrison...

    I think they're eating enough, about 6oz, 5 times a day...

They're nursery is across the hall from our room.  My husband wants to turn the sound off the monitors so we don't wake up with every little noise, but I'm reluctant to do so...

  • We are going through this now too.  If you go to the 3-6 month board, it's called the 4 month wakeful.  It's a phase, and they'll be out of it in a week or two.

At least that's what they say...we're in week two.  :)

    Good luck!

  • That is exactly what DD would do.  DH suggested the same thing but I wasn't turning it off.  I did agree though to give her time to learn how to put herself back to sleep versus going right into their room.  It took us about a week to get it under control but like I said, she is good at it now.  She is up 4 times a night or so and just puts herself back to sleep almost 90% of the time.  Every once in awhile she gets to screaming and that is when we go in to check on her and give her her pacifier.
