New to The Bump

Starting out

Hubby and I are thinking about TTC. Here's our "story".

We've both got baby fever, we've been married for 10 months, and we are financially prepared to handle a new person in our home, we are also stable enough in our relationship that this would bring us closer as a family (we've "practiced" with our fur baby for 2 years already).

I was on the pill for 12 years and recently went off because it was starting to raise my blood pressure. We've monitored it, and it is now down to the higher side of normal and continuing to drop. I was on the pill to manage PCOS symptoms, and since being off, have been taking prenatal vitamins JUST IN CASE. I don't know if my fertility will be compromised because of my condition, so I don't want to wait too long before trying.

I am also classified as obese (not just b/c of PCOS, but b/c of poor lifestyle choices in the past years). In the last 3 months I have lost almost 20lbs and am following WW and an exercise regime to try hard to get myself into a healthier state physically and mentally. However, I would like to start TTC - not seriously, just "if it happens, it happens" and go from there.

I know that many people out there, when they see a fat mom/pregnant woman, think "How selfish", or "How unhealthy", etc, but I want to know people's opinion on this. I work in the health care industry, so I know about the increased risk of complications (preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, etc). I will try not to get offended, as I know they are only people's personal opinions, but I'm sure I can't be the only obese or overweight daydreaming-mom-in-waiting.

So that's the story. A few struggles and uncertainty. It would be great to connect with others who have struggled or succeeded in concieving with PCOS or weight and pregnancy.

Looking forward to posting with many of you in the future!

Re: Starting out

  • It sounds like you are trying to be healthy.  I think that is what's most important.  When I see someone overweight who appears to be making positive choices (walking vs. riding or eating moderately), I feel proud of them.  It's hard to always do the right thing with eating and excercise.  Good luck!
