DH gave me a desk calendar for 2010 of "Forgotten English" (English department, word-geek).
Today's word-of-the-day is:
amaritude - Bitterness. From Old French amaritude, bitterness, and Latin amar-us, bitter. - Sir James Murray's New English Dictionary, 1888 and Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language 1755
How suitable. That's just what I want sitting on my desk today. I woke up on the bitter side of my desk, started the day with that same colleague harping at me about planning a baby shower, and it's the first day of orientation and the admissions department invited all the parents to the faculty meet&greets - because there's nothing better than a room full of helicopter parents to start the year off right.
Incidentally Wednesday's word was:
beef-witted - Having an inactive brain, thought to be caused by eating too much beef. - from John Phin's Shakespeare Cyclopoedia and Glossary, 1902
Re: bitterness, no sh*t
So sorry you've got to deal with harping, annoying parents, and crankiness all at the same time.
Big hugs to you! I think beef-witted may just be my new favorite word! LOL
Blech! TGIF, right?!
Personally, I'd take it as an invitation to be bitter, but that's just me
Hope your weekend is better than your Friday!
