please help me rate my potential stash!

Yayyy I just got the thumbs up from DH to cloth diaper He was really hesitant last time I brought it up, but we just talked again and he was down with it! Its tough because he is away so its all over the phone, but I am glad he thinks its a good idea now. 

So here is my potential stash... I plan on part-time while she's a newborn, and then full-time once she's a little bigger. But I don't want to buy toooo much at first since I have no experience with this. I can always buy more later.

 

9 GMD orange-edge prefolds (newborn)

3 GMD fitted "workhorse" diapers orange (newborn)

= 12 newborn diapers 

24 GMD yellow-edge prefolds(small)

6 GMD fitted "workhorse" diapers yellow (small) 

=30 small diapers 

4 thirsties duo wraps -3 snaps, 1 aplix (size 1)

1 bummies super-brite (small) 

= 5 covers 

12 cloth wipes

3 snappis

2 hemp babies doublers (for overnights, incase LO is a heavy wetter)

2 diaper pail liners

1 wet/dry bag (2 pockets)

1 roll of bummi's diaper liners

How often are you planning to wash?

You'll need more cloth wipes, and won't need the diaper liners at all for a NB.

I am planning to wash every 2 days or so once I go full-time. Do you think the size smalls will be enough??

I know my newborn stash is small, but I am doing this to save money and want to use up the disposables I already have... I have one big box + 2 bags of newborn diapers, and a few bags of size 1. So I figure that on-the-go I can use disposables at first, or when someone is caring for LO, etc.

I think you have too many covers. I'd cut back on the Bummis, since they're sized, and the Thirsties Duos will last longer. Also, Pixy's right, you need more wipes.

Edit: Ok, I just put my glasses on and see that you have 4 covers (not 9, like I thought, lol.) So you're cool on covers. But I'd get more aplix and fewer snaps. My LO is over a month old and I still can't stand trying to snap a wiggly baby.

Definitely LOTS more wipes. And as much as I like snaps, I'd honestly go with aplix for the Thirsties duo wraps (at least for when you use size one)... They're so small when they start using those and aplix gives a more exact fit than snaps since they're put at predetermined intervals. At least that was my experience with the duo wraps.

thanks for the tips!!

i like the idea of aplix more, but have heard things about the velcro not holding up... but i guess since they are sized that wouldn't matter as much. I'll probably switch to all aplix!
