Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby Einstein DVDs...yes or no

Hello ladies!  I kinda bounce between 3-6 & 6-9 b/c my DDs were 8 weeks early (7 months actual, 5 adjusted).  Anyways, I was thinking of getting a few of the B.E. dvds.  What are your thoughts?  Are they worth buying?  Any recommendations?  TIA

  • I got one free. I have played for DD only once. I thought they were just plain WEIRD. JMO

Same here. I got one free and have played it once. It doesn't hold DS's interest and I thought it was weird.

  • Get them off craigslist they are much cheaper.  I have a ton of them but Keira wasn't too impressed.
  • They're definitely strange, and anything the claims to be educational at this age is lying. Babies learn from their surroundings, not TV shows.

If you're going to let LOs watch TV (it's not recommended for children under 2, by the APA, but that's a different story) then it doesn't really matter what they are watching, IMO. Let 'em watch MASH. :P

  • I have about 13 (found a boxed set at a garage sale and already had 4 of my own) and they're amazing. Nathan absolutely LOVES watching them while I do dishes or eat lunch. I think they're adorable.

The best ones IMO are Baby Neptune, Baby Noah, Baby Galileo & Baby McDonald!!!

    HTH!

    This.

On a side note, every time that I respond with "this" I think of that train wreck post.

Yep, this. I was thoroughly UNDER whelmed by the 1st (and only)  BE video I bought DS. They are definitely not worth the $15, and they definitely won't educate your child. I have found similar type videos at the grocery store for $2 that DS enjoyed WAY more.

  • FWIW, research actually shows that these delay language. I would hold off until 2 if you can. That is the AAP recommendation.

  • I would never pay retail price for one, but I did pick up a couple at a yard sale. DD loves them, she sqeals at it the whole time. I don't get it, I find it incredibly boring. We watch one probably less than once a week.

  • even though they state certain videos are for certain ages, my DD didn't care about them at all until she was almost 1 y/o (and LOVED them)  weird, yes, but...  i would maybe rent one from the library and see how it goes before actually buying one.

  • DD likes to watch them and they definitely hold her interest. We only watch one video once a week. I don't let her watch it for the educational value, I let her watch it for the entertainment value. It gives me a little break to do my things too!
