Cloth Diapering

Stripped. I still have stink!

I stripped the diapers.  I had 2 pockets and a few microfiber inserts that still smelled "fishy"(?)   So I gave them a wash.  The pockets still stink!

What gives?

I am soaking them overnight in detergent water and hope to read some helpful responses in the morn'.

Re: Stripped. I still have stink!

  • I have found boiling the microfiber inserts got a ton of residue off along with the stink. After I boiled and got the inserts smelling fresh again, I began doing an extra rinse by hand in the sink of just my microfiber inserts before throwing them in the dryer, but I only have 4 of them to worry about so it isn't too hard to do.  I haven't had a problem since. Unfortunately you can't boil the pockets' shells due to the PUL, so don't know what to advise there as I haven't dealt with the shells holding smell.

  • Use some Rockin' Green and do an overnight soak, then do a couple rinse cycles.

  • I have to hit mine with plain Tide every now and then to knock it out, which just makes me cringe after all the special diaper washing rules.

  • Also, try turning the pocket inside out every now. That has been good for mine.

You can also add a tiny bit of bleach (like a capful) to your wash if you need to.
