We are in the
preliminary stages of PTing DS. He will go #1 on the potty about half
the time - has not gone #2 yet. He has also recognized that being on
the potty is a sure-fire way of getting out of timeout, bed, etc - on
one hand we've heard to keep books and other things in there so he sees
the bathroom as a fun place; on the other hand, he'd sit in there for
hours with no results if we let him. We're not willing to spend an
hour at a time on the bathroom floor, so eventually we say "all done!"
and he has a tantrum.
Adding to issues is that his daycare has
him try to go potty standing up, with a stool. This works for them b/c
the toilet is 18 inches off the ground. He loves it, tries to do the
same thing at home and of course it doesn't work b/c our toilet is
regulation height and sticks out too far. Then he tries a bunch of
positions to try to make it work, ending up with his hands all over the
bowl and back, which is unsanitary (especially if we're out in
public). I don't feel they should be doing a method of PTing at
daycare that we can't replicate at home.
Any advice? Been-there-done-that-and-this-is-what-worked?
