1st Trimester

question about eggs

DH is making me eggs and toast for breakfast and he asked me how I want my eggs, I said the usual, sunny side up. He goes, I thought you couldn't eat non cooked eggs?

Does the runny yolk in the egg = uncooked?? or is sunny side up ok?

Re: question about eggs

  • I don't know the answer to the question, but the thought of runny yolk makes me wanna toss my cookies!!!  Maybe cook it until the yolk is somewhat firm? Smile

  • Runny yolk = not cooked to me.  Even if I was not pg, those make me want to get sick
  • Not safe - the only safe thing is a fully cooked yolk :(  Hard boiled egg or scrambled are an option.  Trust me, I miss my sunny side up eggs :)
  • Wow- honestly it hadn't even occurred to me. I love poached eggs but I guess no more of those :(

  • My doctor told me to avoid undercooked eggs at least during the first trimester.

  • We ended up going with scrambled with a little franks red hot (since I am luurving spicy foods right now) It was still delicious!

  • You'd be ok if you bought pasteurized eggs. Most eggs aren't thought, and the P eggs are like 2$ more per dozen. It would say it on the package.

We usually have dozen on hand for sunny side up eggs, cookie dough, ceasar dressing, etc.

So, during my last pregnancy, I was all excited about the "pasteurized eggs" that you can buy at the store since I love to eat brownie batter before it's cooked.. mmmm.. and I really wanted some while I was pregnant.

Anyways, there was a debate on the bump that those eggs that are labeled "pasteurized" aren't really.  Someone was an egg "expert" lol of some sort and swore that there was no such thing as a pasteurized egg!  anyways, something to research, I guess.. or ask your Doc.

  • My doctor told me always to get my eggs cooked ALL the way like scrambled eggs ( which I hate! but oh well), and I agree with others runny=uncooked.
