Anyone else having a bitch of a time with diaper changes?

I guess it's a form of torture, according to Kate. It doesn't matter what I try to use to distract her with, she is kicking me, turning over and yelling her head off. As soon as I detect a poop diaper, I mutter a swear under my breath and prepare for battle. Any tips?

  • Wyatt has resorted to running in the other direction screaming "NA NA NA NA NA" (his version of no).  Its lovely.  Once I finally get him to lay down for a diaper change he screams the whole time. If any one else changes his diaper he is a little angel though. He just saves the special show for me.

  • Oh, DD is going through this.  As soon as she sees the changing table the devil enters her body and my exorcism chants do nothing to help the situation.  She screams, flips over, and demands to stand on it.  I just calmly lay her back down and tell her, "we need to finish changing your diaper."  When we're done I say very happily, "good job!" and then get her down.  It's a challenge to stay patient.

Haven't thought of food...maybe Puffs will still work their magic. They are still like crack to her.

I'm impressed that you can still use a changing table!  We switched to the floor a few months ago, so at least that way if she flees it's not dangerous :)

  • I can ONLY use a changing table! If we are on the floor, bed, couch, anywhere else he is a maniac. He still gets mad on the changing table, but I can usually get through it if he is playing with something he thinks he is not allowed to have (cell phone, desetin tube, medicine dropper),

Yep!  This.  If we change on the floor or bed he rolls and crawls away!  The changing table he lays somewhat patiently.  And he gets his pacifier since it stays in his room.

  • yes, exactly this. lots of flailing and screaming, and we have to distract him with verboten items like a tube of diaper cream or the tv changer. if he did a really messy poop, DH and i tag team him- one of us distracts and acts like a clown at the top end, the other deals with business at the bottom end.

Exactly this! and I usually give her the the before laying her down, so she is distracted immediately.

  • W doesn't roll or crawl away, but he stiffens up and screams at the top of his lungs, refusing to bend or spread his legs at all. He saves that just for me; he does not do that for H or anyone else.

Speaking of, he's shitting right now...

  • Yes! Its awful. I feel like I'm goin to Hirt him trying to get his diaper on. You'd think he knows the drill by now. I hate diaper change time especially at night before bed.
  • Me and Dh fight over who has to change the diaper. It's horrible.

  • We used to have a really difficult time, but things have gotten better. I usually sing itsy bitsy spider or pattycake and he loves to do the hand motions to the songs, so that keeps his hands occupied while I clean him up.
