Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Is anyone STILL dealing with cradle cap?

DS had terrible cradle cap and most of it is gone now except this one patch! It's a little patch in the center of his scalp and it just won't go away. I've been doing baby oil and brushing with a soft brush. Anyone else still dealing with this or have a better remedy? TIA!

  • My son is younger than your baby but he just started getting the cradle cap.

  • Just leave it alone & it will go away.  That theory worked for us.  I think all the "methods" just irritate it.

  • DD had it horribly. Pedi suggested not using Johnsons products b/c they tend to make it worse. Sure enough, when we started using Aveno, her cradle cap went away. Not sure if it's common or if she was just a special case.

This is what we're doing, too, but it's definately slow going.

It was for us, too, & I was tempted to try things.  I didn't though & it went away on it's own.  Our pedi said the "methods" are for the parents sake so they feel like they are doing something to help, even though it does nothing.

  • I keep meaning to post about this... My Doctor recommended Selson (sp?) Blue-natural.DD was just starting to develop CC and she said using this 2x a week (just a small amount) will not only prevent it but help to treat it as well!

Well we tried it and could not be happier with the results! Her scalp is spotless. As always you should consult w/your pedi first. I don't know if it's meant for every baby (:

(Also please be careful as it is not tear-free!)

  • My DS is over 2.5 yo now and STILL has it. It comes and goes, but always comes back.

DD is starting to get it now, too, so I'll be addressing it soon.

Same here.. I used the soft brush to wash DS hair instead of a wash cloth or my hand

  • Owen has had it since he was about a month old, and no signs of it going away. I was using baby oil every night and brushing his hair out, but it didn't get any better. I don't use Johnsons soap, I use Aveeno. I am hoping it will go away sometime soon. As someone else said, he is getting so much hair its hard to see it now.

  • Aveeno is a J&J product. I use it on myself daily, but DS breaks out in a rash when we use it.

I use Oilatum cream on him at night and a soft brush. His cradle cap started about a month old, and has just started subsiding.

  • My baby got it early on and my doctor said to just put baby shampoo on her head at the beginning of her bath and let it set there until the end of her bath and rinse it out.  It worked.

Our pedi said the same thing. She suggested Aquaphor body wash was better for his skin. It has made it less dry and the cradle cap is getting better.
