Is your child on Pulmicort?

If you have insurance how much do you pay for it? We have BCBS and it's over $500 AFTER insurance. The generic is more than $300

Re: Is your child on Pulmicort?

  • That does not sound right.  My DS was on Pulmicort for awhile.  I don't remember exactly how much it was, but I want to say it was maybe $50 for 30 vials.  The generic actually worked better for DS and was $15 or $30 for 30 vials.  We also have BCBS.
  • I'm with you.  DS is currently only taking it 1x/day but will go back to 2x/day in a week when he starts school.  We have BCBS as well and it's $300/month AFTER insurance :(

The kicker for us was that DS was put on the Pulmicort about 2 weeks after my DH lost his job (and I am a SAHM).  I tried to go through the manufacturer to see if they offered any type of discount but got nowhere.

It sucks!!  I asked his pedi if there was something else that did the same thing but was more affordable (a different manufacturer or something), but she said b/c of DS's age etc, it was best to stick with the Pulmicort nebulizer, so that's what we did.

DH is finally starting a new job next week (insurance active after 90 days) so I am curious to see how much it is then...

  • I think $80.....  one of the pedi's in the practice that we saw the other day gave me a new prescription for 2x a day. She said to continue doing it once a day (when not sick, he's been on it non-stop forever), but the prescription says x2 a day so I get more of it at a time and pay less co-pay.

can your doctor do the same?

  • I want to say we paid around $50 for a prescription each month (and thought THAT was high). It wasn't the generic either. We also have BCBS.
  • DS2 is on the generic (Budesonside), 30 vials, $10/month, also BCBS.
