Q about nap time

How do you get your LO's to nap?

To sleep at night we have a routine: Bath, Bottle, Swaddle, Bed...but I don't swaddle for naps, and usually DD won't nap unless she is in my arms or in the moby wrap.

Everyone keeps telling me that I just need to put her in the crib and let her cry...eventually she will get the picture and nap in her crib.

what do you guys think?  I am not talking about letting her CIO, but I think she does need to learn to nap on her own now and not always in my arms.

Re: Q about nap time

  • When DS starts with his sleepy signs, we do the naptime routine (diaper, book, song) and put him down. In the beginning, we had to rock him until he was really sleepy, but now he knows it's coming so we just have to put him down and he goes right out. Recently, he hasn't been fussing at all.

I'm having the same issue. I don't mind our DS napping in my arms, because I know he won't be little for long. But, I go back to work next week and my in-laws will be watching him every Friday (my DH will be a SAHD Mon-Thurs) They don't hold DS when he naps and he barely gets sleep. Today I held DS until he was sleepy and I put him in the swing. He slept for about an hour. Can you put her in a swing, vibrating chair, etc?

She wakes right up as soon as I put her down and she will begin to cry...I'll pick her back up get her back to sleep and I am afraid to try again, so I just hold her.

  • Have you tried swaddling for naps too? That's the only way we got DD to nap without being held.

My DD does this sometimes as well, I usually move the swing as I strap her in and she stops crying and dozes.  In her crib, which we are just starting this week, I rub her belly and sometimes she falls back to sleep immediately...and sometimes not...like today...and I had an overtired baby on my hands by 5 o'clock. But it's always worth a try to soothe when they wake instead of immediately picking them back up :)
