2 month shots + inconsolable crying

LO got her 2 month shots yesterday around 4:30 and at 8:30 she started screaming & crying for about an hour. inconsolable, all we could do is hold her. This is the first time she has ever done that.

we called the pedi and he said to put warm compresses on her leg where the shot was and try Tylenol. He said it was local pain from the shot. I don't really feel it was local pain.

does anyone else have experience with this?

we want her vaccinated, but don't want to go through this again. she was obviously in extreme distress.

  • LO woke up five or six hours after her shots in pain too. I immediately gave her Tylenol. I don't know if her legs hurt or if she hurt all over, but it really sucked to have to watch her suffer. :-( FWIW, she was fine the next day.

  • We had pretty much the same reaction.  Infant's Tylenol worked well enough and got her back to sleep.  She was fussy for a few days afterward too, just FYI. The weird part was that it was mostly evening fussiness, during the day she was fine.

  • DD cried about 5 hours after her shots, but it coincided with her normal witching hour so we did the same thing we usually do (swaddle, sway, etc) and she was fine.

  • I didnt have this problem, I think it was because my pedi told me that I could give him some tylenol before his appointment so when it was time for his shots it would already be in his system and it would help greatly with the pain. He cried for about 15 minutes after his shots and then was completely fine after that.

Same here!  Maybe I'll try the tylenol before the doctors office.

FWIW, there was some literature from my dr's office saying not to give Tylenol before the vaccines because it can lessen the effectiveness of the vaccine.  It's good to have it on hand just in case, but I would check with the doctor before giving it to LO.
