North Dakota Babies

4 Month Dr Appt Update......

I am very proud of myself!!! I did not cry when Gianna got her shots lol....I did the last time, so I thought for sure I would this time....She screamed of course, my poor baby!!!! But then she stopped and is happy as can be right now!!

Gianna weighs 14lbs 3oz and is 24 inches long!

The Dr asked if she was sleeping through the night and I said no!! She asked if she was in her own room and I said No!! Lol!!! She said at her age, and weight she should be sleeping 10-12 hours straight at night, and that if we put her in her own room she will. She says because she is in the room with us, she smells me and the breastmilk and than wakes up.....Hmm....What do you girls think?

DH is not ready to put her in her own room, so we may need to come up with a compromise?!?!?

She also said to start giving her rice cereal at 6 months since I am EBF....I was thinking of starting it at 4 months, but I may wait a little longer now....

All in all great appointment!!! What are your thoughts about the rice cereal and sleeping through the night if she is in her crib?

Just curious your experiences.......

Re: 4 Month Dr Appt Update......

  • I'm glad to hear she's happy and healthy! It bugs me when pedis say blanket statements like that. Maybe a baby her age and weight us capable of sleeping that long but that doesn't necessarily mean that if you move her to her own room she will magically start sleeping that long or something. I think you two need to do what makes you comfortable an maybe research methods of getting her to sleep longer that don't involve kicking her out of your room/bed. The No Cry Sleep Solution is a great book and actually caters to co-sleeping. That being said, if you ARE ready to put her in get own room then this would be a good way to get DH on board. I still recommend the No Cry Sleep Solution though. Good luck!

  • She actually sleeps in her pack and play in our room...She was in our bed for the first 3 months, but now she sleeps in her pack and play....DH and I said we would discuss it next weekend....This weekend and week coming up is going to be crazy for us, so after her Christening next weekend we will sit down and pick a date to start her in her crib :)
  • I actually think it is a good idea to put her in her room, at least by the time you go back to work. I think you will probably both sleep better. You won't hear every little noise she makes and if she just stirs a little, and you dont go to her right away she may fall back asleep. Some nights if B is extra restless I turn the volume down on the monitor - I will still hear her if she really cries but not if she is just making a little noise.

As for the cereal, the AAP recommends waiting until 6 months, and some people think they don't have the necessary digestive enzymes until then. I actually offered B some cereal this morning because suddenly my milk production is not keeping up with her appetite, but she really wasn't ready.

  • I do recommend putting her in her own room, but that's JMPO.  I have the monitor on, but no volume.  This way, I can simply press the button & see her.  Granted she is only a short distance from me, so I can actually hear her even when she is just talking to herself but if she begins to cry/wimper I can get to her quickly.  I do believe that you will get more rest & so will she if you put her in her own room, I know I sure do!!

I do not have experience w/ the rice cereal but do know that my Pedi recommended starting her on it at her 4 month appointment & beginning it now or at 6 months.  He's a pretty laid back guy & I really like him!!
