Angel, I watch this movie about 20 times a year, and I always skip the first chapter! The only time I ever watched it was in the theater! To me, the first line in the movie is Nemo yelling "FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!" He's so cute!
I agree the names in the movie were brilliant (Deb & Flo?... COME ON!).
Let's see how they would translate to the real world.
Real/useable names:
Nemo might be a good name, if it wasn't the main character/title of one of the most popular Disney movies ever! haha
Coral- possible alternative to Cora, which at the top of my short list.
Doris, Doreen (nn Dory)- real names, but outdated
Deborah (nn Deb)- definitely outdated
Flora, Florence (nn Flo)- Flora is on my short list
Jacques- VERY french sounding. Haven't ever met anyone in the US w/ this name
Peach- sounds like a 50's diner waitress
Nigel- outdated
Bruce- outdated
Raymond- I feel like there all the Raymonds I've ever seen have been Jr.'s
Theodore (nn Tad)- cute
Pearl- has popped up on the Bump a couple of times recently, but I don't think anyone has actually USED it.
Sheldon- with the recent popularity of "Big Bang Theory" this name may not be so strongly associated with turtles anymore. But now it sounds like a nerdy name to me.
And of course, the humans:
Philip- great name
and his neice Darla- just nms
Only appropriate for sea creatures:
(although it is funny to imagine the type of people these could be nicknames for)
Eaglefoot - you're awesome for putting this together! I used to watch the first chapter, but after my m/c, I just couldn't ever again. Tell you what though - it was the first movie we played when we got our big screen TV.
Lol at Chum and Gurgle....they could be twins!
I've worked with a Marlin - actually three of them...I, Jr and III. Crazy.
Bloat is no ones friend Bubbles - stripper! Squirt - a soda Anchor - ten bucks says that somewhere, someone has named their kid this Crush - ahahaha...another soda
I remember a behind-the-scenes interview where they said that Darla was named after the production manager who kept them to the time schedule...it was their playful revenge or something like that.
Sheldon - all I hear is this...
Harry Burns: With whom did you have this great sex? Sally Albright: I'm not going to tell you that. Harry Burns: Fine, don't tell me. Sally Albright: Shel Gordon. Harry Burns: Shel? Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon. Sally Albright: I did too. Harry Burns: No you didn't. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man... but humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name. 'Do it to me Sheldon, you're an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.' Doesn't work.
Philip - agreed, great name! Coral- I think Name Berry folks like this one, I like Cora too. I would probably middle name Coral
Doris, Doreen (nn Dory)- real names, but outdated <-- agreed
Deborah (nn Deb)- definitely outdated <-- agreed
Flora, Florence (nn Flo)- I think it could work...Florence and Flora have caught my eye thanks to Design Mom (her newest baby girl is Flora June), and Florence because of Florence, Italy and the famous runner, Flo-Jo
Jacques- VERY french sounding. Haven't ever met anyone in the US w/ this name <-- agreed. A nice nod to Jacques Cousteau...we're more likely to see Jacqueline these days.
Peach- sounds like a 50's diner waitress <--- hahahahha...or a Project Runway designer
Nigel- very British name to me. I don't think I could ever shake that image.
Bruce- outdated <-- I know, but I keep hoping to see a resurgence because of Batman.
Raymond- I feel like there all the Raymonds I've ever seen have been Jr.'s <-- I have the same feeling! I don't know what it is about this name. I prefer it plain ol' Ray (or the female attempt, Rae), but the last Raymond I saw was on TV.
Theodore (nn Tad)- cute <-- agreed. It's usable
Pearl- Yeah, I see this as more of a middle name now. Maybe it's too vintage for some people to use as a first. At least around this site.
