anyone told NOT to give tylenol before 2 month shots???

my LO's pedi recomends not to give tylenol prior to recieving his two month vaccines as it may weaken the immune response and therefore render the vaccine less effective....has anyone else also been told this?

Re: anyone told NOT to give tylenol before 2 month shots???

  • yep, my pedi said the same thing.

  • Yes. Plus, LO might not need it and if they do, the dose is based on weight so the pedi can give you the dose needed.
  • thanks guys, just looking for some reassurance...everyone says different things! and my cousin's LO's pedi told her TO give the tylenol before...ahh just wish they could all be on one page!!
  • Yep, DD2 just had her one month appointment today and I asked if I should give Tylenol (well, the generic) before her appointment next month since she is getting shots.  He said not to.  Hopefully we won't need it any way!

  • Just went for our 2 mo shots today and didnt give tylenol before. I dont think its necessary, maybe just have it ready in case your LO gets a fever afterwards.

  • Also it could mask adverse reactions.
  • *sigh* This is why I wish my office HAD a pediatrician, rather than just a "family practice" doc. NO, he didn't tell me not to give Tylenol. In fact, he sent me to the in office pharmacy to pick some up for DS after his circumcision today. I gave him a dose right after the procedure, but I guess I won't give him anymore. GRRRR!!!
  • I was always told not to give DD tylenol before any of her shots.  The reason was because if she did have a fever they would not want to give her any shots.
  • I was told at LO's 1-week appt to give her tylenol prior to her 2-month shots.  So I gave her just a little bit.  Then AFTER we get checked in, the nurse tells me to wait til after the appt!  WTH?!  Our Dr told us it was ok.  LO didn't have a fever afterwards anyway.

Still, it would've been nice to get the correct information the first time.

  • yes our pedi said don't give it beforehand.  reason being lots of kids are totally fine & it will be unnecessary.  he said to give it only if needed afterward.
