Potty Training and #2?

Alec is just about potty trained with #1.  He has had no accidents at daycare including through naps.  But there are some issues still

1.  He pees  standing up so if we are in a public place and there is no stool, he has issues going in the potty.  He also doesn't aim, he just stands there.--any advice on this one?

2.  He is holding his #2s all day.  We do swimming lessons right after school so he is going the minute I put a swimmie diaper on him.--during the weekend, do I just sit him on the toilet every once and while?  Should he be in underwear all day long even around the times I know he usually poops?

Here is what I do:

1)  When we are in public I stand him up on the toilet and he aims and pee pees.  It works really well.

 2) What we do is have him wear a pull up in the morning until he poops and then he has straight underwear.  The only problem is if he poops later that day he will poop in his underwear if he doen't tell me in time.  I put on disposable gloves and I just clean his underwear in clean toilet water to get the poop out before I wash them.  Daycare told me this trick and it works better than throwing them away.

1.  He pees  standing up so if we are in a public place and there is no stool, he has issues going in the potty.  He also doesn't aim, he just stands there.--any advice on this one?  The daycare and I taught Ethan to pee sitting down.  This helps him to not have any accidents.  He will occasionally stand to pee and dh taught him to aim his penis at the opening in the toilet; so far no accidents.  As Ethan gets closer to pre-k, we will teach him more about standing when he pees.

re #2 I would try and get him to spend a few mins. sitting on the potty before you put the swimmie diaper on.  If I'm paying attention I can totally tell when Tess has to poop.  I just pick her up and take her to the potty as soon I see she's trying to go.  She's at that age where she kind of hides when she has to go so if I see her run off behind the couch or in my closet I know what she's doing!

When the potty is too tall for Jack, I just hold him up and he either kneels on the toilet or just hangs there and goes. He did not get #2 until he was in underwear fulltime, he would just go in his pullup. And really I just had to wait it out...even if we caught him about to go poop and put him on the potty, he would hold it in. Finally, with treats for pooping, lots of praise, and time, he did it when he was ready. And we tossed pooped in underwear, just not gonna deal with it.

Cadence got the going #2 pretty early on. Then she got freaked out and would not go #2 on the potty for 3 months. What we did was offer a big bribe (a little Thomas the Train set) and on weekends we would let her go without a diaper or panties. We had a few accidents but finally had a break through and we made a big deal and gave her her toy. The no bottoms route is a scary one to take but it seems to have worked and now that she seems to be good with the whole potty thing we are having our carpets professionally cleaned tomorrow

Once we switched to panties there was no going back.  SC had a couple painfull poops and she would hold it.  I had to bribe her with jellybeans to go...which still didn't work until I made a chart and we worked up to a big present

Benjamin is somewhat going through the same thing with #2.  He has #1 and although he has the bladder of a camel, he definitely pees in the potty.  He's in underwear all the time and we make a big deal when he goes on the potty.  He's still not completely trained for naps yet or bedtime, both times that he poops.  I still keep him in underwear and put a pull-up over the underwear so he'll feel when he is wet or poops and he asks to go to the bathroom.  Unfortunately, he sleeps really, really hard so he doesn't realize he poops until he wakes up after nap or in the morning and then runs to the bathroom.

I'm going with the "it takes time" approach and we're also using a chart and he gets stickers every time he pees or poops in the potty.  When the chart is filled up, he gets a big prize.  I still do celebrations with him and big praise when he pees on the potty and I was giving him a little prize every so often as well but now that he's gotten #1 he gets his sticker and that's all. 

 And I just realized I'm babbling. :-)
