I would probably pronounce it Claire-a...but upon further review I realize that it should probably be pronounced claar-ah. If it was supposed to be Claire-a I guess it would be spelled Claira?
I actually really strongly dislike it when it's pronounced Claa-ra.
But for the record, this name has no "correct" pronunciation; it is pronounced differently based on different regions. I think you'll find the pronunciation is about 50-50 each way.

Wow, I had no idea that Claa-ra was a possible (and somewhat common) pronunciation of this name. I have only known one (who is around 70 now) and everyone has always said Claire-ah.
I think Claire-ah is so pretty, but I'm with you on Claa-ra - I don't like it at all.

Re: Clara
Claire-ah
Do people actually say Claar-ah?!
:: waits patiently to make sure this isn't another name I have been saying wrong for 20+ years ::

I've heard both. Generally (and kind of sad to admit) I take my cues from Back to the Future with Claire - a.
I bet Claar-a was the proper British pronunciation with Americans taking it over and usuing Claire-a...no facts to back it, just a guess.
ETA: Okay, yeah - it just depends on what country you're from/in...
