XP: MTHFR

My doc called yesterday and I have been diagnosed with compound MTHFR gene mutations (C677T & A1298C).  I have been googling this for about 24 hours now and am so confused!!  Anyone else have these mutations?  What treatment is your doctor ordering?  TIA for any help!!

I have this, too - compound heterozygous with one mutation of each.  I am being treated for this for the early risk of heart disease that it presents because of my family history - I'm taking B6, B12, Folic Acid and a baby aspirin.  I am not being treated for it for pregnancy related issues because my homocystene (sp?) levels are normal.  From my understanding, the symptom that indicates a problem regarding pregnancy is the elevated homocystene level and since mine isn't elevated it doesn't need to be treated.  (However, I also have an elevated PAI-1C so I will be treated for that with daily heparin injections during my next pregnancy, so I'm not sure it matters.)  I know a lot of people take a lot of extra folic acid and meds to help absorb folic acid, so I'm going to double check on that the next time I see my MFM and make sure I'm not supposed to be taking that.  HTH - I'm sure others have more answers for you!

I have the same mutations. Right now I'm on a baby aspirin a day, a prenatal vit a day, and Folgard Rx twice a day.

Thanks for that website. I've been searching Dr. Google but have not seen that one. It's the best explanation I've seen so far.
