Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Order of teeth, could DD be getting molars?

She always seems to put things in the back of her mouth where her molars would be to chew on them. Could she be getting molars? I thought that was later.

My only thougt is according to this they get incisors... then lateral incisors... then 1st molars... then eye teeth... then 2nd molars.  PP is right molars start typically around 1 year but if you DD is like my DS he has all his incisors and lateral incisors yet is stiiiilllll teething!!!!!!!!!! he is a drool factory and chewing on everything.  so the next logical tooth would be his 1st molars?? yet i highly doubt it... i have no clu what he is going on with him.  Does your LO have all her front teeth?  Could be she just likes the way it feels.  I know i let my LOs chew on the tooth brush for a few min during bedtime and they both chew back there on it.  could something else be bothering her?  ears... sinuses?? those things could make her mouth hurt.

  • The average time and usual order of appearance is

    • Four central incisors (cutters) start appearing at around 6-7 months
    • Four more side incisors appear at around 8 months
    • Four back molars (chewing teeth) appear at between 10-14 months
    • Four canines (pointed teeth) appear at around 16-20 months.
    • Four more back molars appear at between 24-30 months.

You probably just have a very drooley, chewey  kid...like me!  DS has been chewing and soaking bibs since he was 3 months old.  We have no teeth and don't appear to have any in sight for the time being.

  • We joke about this all the time, DS does the EXACT same thing!  So far no teeth at all, though.  My mom, who worked in a dentist's office, said it would be really rare, though she didn't think unheard of.  So, I guess it's possible, but most likely we just have babies who really like to chew!
  • Our LO does the same - but zero teeth yet!
