RP: question for oahu ladies - hiking alone

Hope you don't mind an outsider asking a question.  DH and I will be visiting Oahu.  He's traveling for business, I'll be on vacation and will have alot of time to myself.  I'd like to do some hiking, but wasn't sure of the safety factor of doing it alone there.  What do you recommend?  Thank you!

I personally don't hike anywhere alone. My thoughts are you'd be alone in the woods and no one would know where you were... it freaks me out. I think doing the stairs by diamondhead would be ok but that's a HOT hike in the middle of the day. You could also do diamondhead alone... it's a decent workout.

I'd walk in Waikiki alone at night but I have friends that wouldn't even do that. It can be dangerous if you don't stay on the main path near the beach, don't venture off on the side streets alone at night there...

  • I guess it depends on what you consider hiking. I would not go off the beaten path alone. I would stick to more popular attractions like Diamond Head, the Koko Head stairs or the Makapuu lighthouse trek. Those are all reasonably populated and still offer great views, although pretty basic "hikes."
