Solid Side/Headboard Crib?

Has anyone out there come across any safety concerns with a solid side (future headboard) crib? I love the look of the built to grow cribs with a solid side/headboard, but wonder about the safety of it. Is anyone else concerned about these types of cribs?

Re: Solid Side/Headboard Crib?

  • That is the kind of crib that we have. ?I actually have not thought about any potential safety hazard with it. ?Honestly, if I really think about it, maybe the solid part is better because for sure no legs or arms or heads! could get stuck in it? ?

  • I would be concerned with the breathability.  As the baby breathes out, carbon dioxide can concentrate in the crib, suffocating him/her.  This is also why bumpers are not recommended once the baby starts moving around.
  • We were considering one, but I would like to put breathable bumpers in the crib, and there's no way to do it with a solid side.

  • That's the kind we have and we have never had a safety issue with it. That actually never crossed my mind.
  • We just bought a solid side crib, and I don't see a problem with breathability. Most cribs that are slats on both long sides are pushed up against a wall on one side anyway.
