any peruvian moms out there...random I know

So one of my absolute favorite dishes in this world is this peruvian dish called Ceviche.  It's raw white fish marinated in lime juice, usually over night, so that the acid in the juice 'cooks' the fish.

I'm having a MAJOR craving for it...it's summer...it's like 90 degrees out and the thought of this cool summery dish is making me salivate.

But would this be on the NO list for food to eat?  I mean the fish is sorta cooked...

  • I don't have an answer, but I have always wondered what ceviche was! A local restaurant is always advertising it & I never knew what the heck it was!

That's what I feared...and we're going to Peru in my 4th month... Crying

  • Not Peruvian but I do eat ceviche. I have the ok of my dr for raw fish if it's fresh and from a reputable place with good safety practices. I wouldn't eat it if my MIL made it because she tends to leave good out at room temp for too long. But a restaurant will marinate it in the fridge to make sure it's safe.
  • I'm not Peruvian, but I ate ceviche while pregnant last time. Mostly the shellfish kind, since that tends to have a lower mercury count than some of the bigger fish. As long as it was fresh seafood from a reputable place, I felt comfortable with it.

Actually at one point we were in Turks & Caicos on a boat where we caught our own conch, and they cut it right up and made it into ceviche right there in front of us. Doesn't get much fresher than that. ;)
