TTC after 35

Oh, FFS, SERIOUSLY!?!

Okay, so this is in regard to the TB skin test that I had this week, which I had for a volunteer job at a hospital. I'm looking at the spot and it is red (which is not a concern) but its raised (though not a lot) which, everything I read, means its positive. I go to have it read tomorrow and I'm praying with all hope that its not this way tomorrow OR that my mind is making it more out or this because I'm crazy. I don't understand why one arm was negative and then one week later the other arm is positive. Also, two different nurse did each test and not the same way..I wonder if that could be an issue. Anyone want to ease my mind and tell me this happen to them but turned out to be nothing. Please.

I've had a small red dot/bump before and they read it as negative. So you may be fine! Good luck!

  • I remember (and it's been a while!) that I had a raised area and I was negative, too.  To be honest, I think that if you were postitive, you would know....I would think that the area you were pricked would be angry red and super inflamed.  (of course I've never seen a positive)  Try not to worry!

  • Hey chicken....I've had many TB tests...thanks to the US Army; and they were hardly ever done the same way twice.  Also, if the skin test ends up being positive they have to do another sort of test to confirm it.

A red bump should be OK....try not to stress!  (I know, easier said than done!)

Poor Chicken...your attempt at volunteer work is causing you tons of trouble!  TB skin tests are notoriously unreliable.  If they read it as positive, they will move on to other tests which I imagine will come back negative.

  • Okay, well, this has eased my mind a little. I'm going right now to have it read hopefully they will read it as negative.
  • It's all good. She did inspection the area and said it just looked irritated. Thank goodness. I also got my first of two MMR vaccines.
  • Glad to hear it all turned out ok!  The way the PPD was administered can affect the way it looks, even if negative.  Whew!

  • Glad it read negative.  I'm sure it was stressful for you.  BTW, even if the skin tests reads positive, I think it just means you were exposed at some point.  Doesn't mean you actually have it and are contagious.  They have to do further testing to determine that.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • they messure the degree that it's raised.  if it's small you should be fine.

    happy 4th

  • I know I have to wait 30 days after the vaccine. I'm not actively TTC right now because of my miscarriage from end of March anyway.
  • At my workpace it's policy that our vaccines are up-to-date. When my dh and I first started TTC, I had my MMR shots and remember being upset that we would be "delayed" a month, so silly in hindsite.

Glad it was on your radar.

  • Chicken my hubby is a teacher so he has to do TB tests every so often.  He always tests positive with the arm prick and red bumps but when they do further testing it's always negative.  GL hope this is the case with you too!!!

  • I can't tell by the OP whether you said that you had one test in one arm and one in the other - if so, how far apart were they administered? If too close, the first one will make the other look positive because the test itself has traces of TB in it.
