New to CD's- Couple Questions

I am going to order some Thirsties Duo Wraps Size 1 and need some opinions from those already using them since I'm going to be a first time mom in August...snaps or aplix? I plan on also buying GMD organic prefolds with them. How many newborn prefolds should I get? Think 12 would be enough? Any other prefolds you recommend?

Re: New to CD's- Couple Questions

  • I would get another dozen prefolds. Newborns usually go through at least 10 diaper changes a day, so 24 will let you not have to do laundry every single day.

As far as quality, I'm still a newb there. This is our third, but we did sposies with the other two. I've heard great things about GMD. I just got about 20 CottonBabies Indian prefolds because they were on sale and heard from girls here that they were happy with them too.

    Ella is finally here!

  • I had 18 pf's from Wildflowerdiapers.com and they worked great.  For NB I'd go with aplix for covers because it gives a better fit.  You're going to want at least 24 diapers for the nb stage because you'll go through at least 12 diapers a day.  I had 30 in my stash because my kids can pee/poop like you wouldn't believe.
  • <Derail> Sapphyr- are you in AZ? I just ask because Wildflower is up the street from my house. Well, they were, their site says they're moving- but I hope not too far. I plan on going to their CD class in August!

  • If you're only using prefolds, you definitely need more diapers.  I would say 24, bare minimum, if you are going to wash every other day.  Thirty is probably safer, given how often babies poo.  I love my Thirsties Duo wraps, but when I bought them, aplix was the only option.  It has held up pretty well and aplix covers are easier to get onto a squirmy baby than snaps.  I still like snaps better, though, because they don't grab onto diapers and covers in the wash and make them all pilly.
