What a difference a world-renowned hospital makes. My god.
The doctors at Mayo did a bunch more tests on my dad yesterday and examined him very thoroughly, etc. Late yesterday, they came back and told my parents "Well, good news. There's no tumor. There's no cancer."
What lit up the X-rays and caused all this concern was a deep, inflamed fracture in his hip bone that's more typically seen in 80-year-old women with osteoporosis. Very hard to see, let alone diagnose. And very painful, which is what was causing his extreme back pain. His fevers were caused by the inflammation from walking on it and not resting, etc. the past six weeks.
I can't even begin to express how relieved we are. AND how frustrated we are with his local doctors after so many tests and then such a huge misdiagnosis.
We'll definitely be going to Mayo for anything serious in the future, especially since it's only a couple hours away. They don't mess around.
Thank you all SO MUCH for your thoughts, prayers and concerns. I can't begin to tell you how much it's meant.

When my Dad was Dx with kidney cancer, he went to the Cleveland Clinic AND Mayo - I credit both places them for saving him. Nothing beats a GOOD medical center.

That is terrific news and I'm so relieved for you.
We had something like that happen to dh once when I was newly pregnant. They diagnosed him with lymphoma but were completely wrong, it was sarcoidosis, which is totally treatable.
