For the Billionth Time...

What is BLW?!?!?!?  It drives me crazy every time I see a post cause I don't know what it stands for.

PS-The posts themselves don't drive me crazy though Cake

Well...that's what I meant anyways, lol.

  • I'm so paranoid about DS choking and even reading this makes me get all anxious. How do they prevent their LO's from getting too much in their mouths or choking?

I just finished reading a post from last night about it that someone linked to, and apparently, they will gag on pieces, and that's their body's way of telling them that piece was too big, and they will gradually learn how big of pieces they can swallow. I guess if you're sitting right there eating with them, you can kind of watch and see how big the pieces are that they are biting off??

Maybe if I was better trained in cpr stuff. I'm such a scaredy cat!

Me too! DS accidentally got a piece of green onion in his mouth once at a restaurant, and I immediatley panicked, and stuck my finger in the back of his mouth to get it so he wouldn't choke. The piece was the size of a dried piece of barley. Ya think I overreact much?? I'm hoping to get past that so I can do this.

I'm not exactly doing BLW, but I will give Evelyn some regular food to try sometimes... I'll give her a slice of apple while having lunch, to keep her occupied.. normally she'll just gum it half to death, but on Wednesday, she actually bit off a chunk of it, and started gagging on it... kinda scary, but I was surprisingly calm, and just popped the stroller tray open, clicked the button to release the straps, leaned her forwards, reached in and retrieved the chunk, then patted her back to make sure there wasn't any stuck in her throat. She wasn't gagging anymore, so I let her lean back again, took away the rest of the slice for the time being (it was all gross at that point, anyway), strapped her back in, and continued our own lunch, replacing the apple with another toy we had on hand for her.

She's getting to the point where she doesn't LIKE baby food at all (and actually gags on it.... go figure), but she likes chunky strawberry yogurt, and other food that we give her off our plates. If she'll eat it, I say go for it. And she's never (surprisingly) choked on the chunks in the strawberry yogurt. Strange lil girl! Smile
