What a signs of an allergic reaction?

DD got peas for the first time last night.  I honestly figured this would be a huge nonissue.  I mean, they're peas!  This morning, she had some tiny red bumps on her shins and forearms.  They were raised with a redish-pink center and a little white around the edge.  Nothin gon her tummy, chest, or face.  To me, it looks more like prickly heat, but I'm not 100% sure.  She sleeps in an a/c room in footed pjs, so I don't know how she would have gotten hot, nor do I know if it would have shown up a day later from being outside (with sunblock and hat).  Her stool this morning was normal.  Anyone know what an allergy rash would look like?

Re: What a signs of an allergic reaction?

  • our pedi said it will look like hives and is usually on the face, around the mouth.  and she said it usually is within the hour of eating it.

maybe put a call into the pedi just to be sure?

  • DD had a reaction to oatmeal.  She had a rash on her cheeks and thighs that looked like a heat rash.  It came on about a hour after eating, and was gone by the next day.  Pedi told me to just wait about a month before giving it to her again.
  • DS had a reaction to yogurt yesterday.  It showed up within probably 20 minutes.  He had a rash all over his face, hands, arms, head, neck and then it spread to his back and chest.

I took him to a doc-in-the-box place because we are visiting my parents (5 hours from home) and it was mostly gone by the time the doctor came in to see him.  I think he thought I was crazy because it was gone.

It scared me but DS was happy the whole time, just rubbing his eyes and ears a bit.  We won't be trying yogurt any time soon though.

  • Is she scooting or crawling? Stomach sleeping? DD has had some irritation on her knees & elbows since she's been scooting herself around.. and I know when I wait one day too long to change her crib sheet, because she gets little red bumps on her face. Doesn't sound too much like an allergy, just maybe irritation. Bath & lotion, change the sheets, put her on a blanket on the floor, see what happens! GL :)
