Infertility

Which pre-natal vitamins are you taking?

I'm taking a prescription one that my ob/gyn prescribed, Pre-Nexa. It has some soy product in it and I heard and was told by my acupuncturist that Soy is not good and can hinder fertility. Is that so? I already did my IVF cycle and waiting for the preg test next Wed. Just wanted to know which pre-natal vitamins you ladies are taking. TIA!

Re: Which pre-natal vitamins are you taking?

  • I just take the Target brand prenatals.
    TTC since April 2008

Me: PCOS/Amenorrhea DH: Azoospermia due to Y Chromosome Micro Deletion IVF w/ ICSI on hold until further notice

    Hope

  • Targ.et generic PNV and DHA. My RE said the generics are fine as long as the amounts are comparable. He also stated that you have to eat massive amounts of soy for it to effect you, but I suppose if you want to avoid it it doesn't hurt. GL.

  • I take the Winn-Dixie brand.

Tried One-A-Day, but they make me throw up.

  • I've always been given VitaNatal OB plus by my RE throughout treatment.  I've had no trouble with them.  Good luck next Wednesday!

  • I take Pre-Nate w/DHA.  Oddly enough, my RE never prescribed prenatals until I was pregnant (weird, I just thought of now).  I am still taking them and the only good thing is they go down easy and sort of tasted good (which was their main concern (to be able to keep it down during pregnancy, since so many women can't)).  Good luck next wed!

  • Thanks Ladies for the feedback. The nurse at the fertility clinic said it's ok taking the pre-nat vitamins. Soy just decreases estradiol levels. But said it's ok at my stage. I'm sooo paranoid.
  • I just started taking Preg-Vit on Monday (2 pills daily, pink in the AM without food for iron absorption and blue in the evening about 1 hour after eating for calcium/folic acid and other vitamin absorption). In Canada I have to have a prescription for these. I was taking over the counter prenatals from the health food store as they were the only ones that didn't make me nauseous. My RE's office also gave me 2 weeks supply of samples of Preg-Vit to make sure I wouldn't feel sick from them first. So far so good! GL!

  • I take CitraNatal Assure with DHA.

Just a FYI but there is soy in almost everything you eat, it is a very common additive these days.  It is even in M&Ms.  So I think I would be more concerned with the amount of soy in the vitamin more than the fact it is in there, the amount could be negligable.

  • NatureMade with DHA. I get a 90 day supply from Costco.

I'm allergic to dairy so I eat a ton of soy products. It has not been an issue as far as TTC (we have other issues). My E2 is actually on the high side.

  • I have taken a few different types (depending on sales and what i have coupons for) - but most recent one is naturemade prenatal with DHA... just started this one ~1 week ago and noticed this one seems to make me more constipated (sorry for the TMI Embarrassed)...i even try drinking a ton of water and know i get adequate fiber - but still have that issue.  My RE just game me some pre-nate with DHA so i will probably use those next...fingers crossed it is less of an issue with them.

I took this brand for 2 years and was constipated for 2 years. It was brutal. The only good thing to come out of my pregnancy was my OB prescribing  CitraNatal Assure. It has a built-in stool softener that is like a miracle in a bottle.

Oops- I haven't taken PNVs in a loong time.  Kind of forget when it seems useless.  I was taking Trinate- prescription PNVs b/c a local store offers them for free.  But they are huge.  I hate pills so I have to split them up and take them in a spoonful of yogurt or applesauce.

I think I'm going to run out and get flinstone vitamins and supplement w/ folic acid.  Good idea!

Surprise BFP after 5 yrs of TTC
  • Thanks ladies for all your input!! The nurse at the fert clinic gave me 3 different samples of pre-natal vitamins. Which some of you have already mentioned - prenate essential, citra natal assure and citra natal harmony.
