3rd Trimester

Enema before induction...WWYD?

A friend of mine has done one with each of her babies and swears by it. I know it's not going to stop poop altogether BUT she says it helped her.

WWYD?

Should I go for it?

The one she suggested is by Fleet and cost a whole dollar and a half. I have it in the bathroom. I just don't want to end up doing more damage then good.

TIA

Re: Enema before induction...WWYD?

  • I wouldn't.  It's a part of labor and I won't put myself through more than I have to.

I had to do a fleet enema during my second tri when I went 10 days without a BM and it was miserable.  I want nothing to do with them ever again unless absolutely necessary.

  • Don't do it.  First of all, getting an enema before labor is antiquated thinking and totally unnecessary.  Second, while it can clean you out and keep you from having anything to excrete while you are pushing, it can also not work, or make your fecal matter watery and much more gross for the people on that side of you to take care of.  The fact is that MOST women have a bowel movement while pushing, it is not a big deal, the nurses are so adept at dealing with it that often your support persons (i.e. husband/doula/mother) won't even notice that you had one, the nurses just pull away the pad under you and put another in place, it's not a big deal at all.
  • Ok cool. Thanks ladies. I'm not going to do it.

If I poop I will make light of it. After tomorrow it will all be over! WOOT!

  • They gave me one in the hospital.  It was very unpleasant the way the do it.   It looks like a beer bong and they pour the stuff in the top and it goes strait into your bum.  It works it a matter of minutes and you're all cleaned out.  It was was so humiliating!   lmao!

I asked DH yesterday if I did with either kid and he said that he didn't notice if I did (and he would tell me) ....he just said that a lot of random stuff comes out when you push out a kid...fluid, blood etc.

  • Once you go into labor, your body will naturally empty out a little.  And, the previous response is right.  So much fluid and stuff is coming out of you at that point- who cares?  And, I guarantee you that you won't notice while you're pushing.
