Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Breakfast questions for LO.

What does your LO generally eat for breakfast? How many different things do you offer LO at a sitting? I usually have to give DD 4-5 different things otherwise she eats like a bird. Also, do you give them a drink with their meal? Milk or OJ? DD is on Enfagrow to add extra calories to her diet. Sometimes she fills up on that and doesn't want to eat much as well. I'm just looking for ideas for some variety. I feel like I buy so many different things every time I go to the grocery store. Just looking for what others do. Thanks!

Re: Breakfast questions for LO.

  • His usual breakfast items are: waffles with applesauce, toast or mini bagels with cream cheese, Cheerios, yogurt and/or fruit.  I always give him a sippy of milk with breakfast too.  We don't do juice.

Sometimes he'll drink his milk right away when he wakes up and then won't eat the rest of his breakfast so we wait on the food until a half hour or so later.

  • We usually eat pancakes/waffles, toast with jam, bagel with cream cheese, or oatmeal. They also eat fruit with their breakfast and a cup of milk.

  • I usually don't offer a drink until she is at least half way done her meal. She gets milk first thing in the morning and then about an hour later breakfast (depending on when she wakes up). Some mornings I'll give her some kix's or cheerios in a bowl to snack on before breakfast or dropping her off at daycare.

When introducing something new to her, I know she is only going to eat a few bites of it so I always give her something I know she is going to eat. During the week she gets yogurt & banana or turkey sausage & banana for breakfast. On the weekends, I'll make her an egg and some ham or cheese.

Today I gave her a bagelful and banana.

  • I always give DS a fruit, grain, and dairy/protein.  He also gets milk before breakfast, so he gets water with that meal.  Lately we have been giving him: yogurt, cheese, eggs, ham/egg sandwiches, applesauce, waffles, peanut butter toast, diced fruits, oatmeal, cottage cheese, cereals, pancakes, nutrigrain bars, and occasionally french toast sticks.

  • Emmalee usually gets 3-4 items, sometimes more depending on what she chooses to eat that day. I usually start with applesauce with cinnamon, sometimes I mix in the infant oatmeal for added nutrients. Then I move to yougart, graham crackers, puffs, and bananas. We try to not give her milk until 1/2 way through any meal, otherwise she will fill up on just that. She has also gotten in the past: waffles, pancakes, cereal (dry), fruit strips and granola bars. It all varies depending on the day and what we are having. At DCP, they give her cherrios, fruit loops, fruit, etc.
  • DD loves pancakes and eggs.  Sometimes she'll eat other things- cinnamon toast with a banana, biscuit with jelly and yogurt, cereal, etc.  But she loves pancakes and eggs so much, she usually asks me for it as soon as she wakes up in the morning, "Cancakes?  Eggs? Cancakes?  Eggs?"

  • DD has milk and yogurt and cereal almost every morning for breakfast.  I try to offer other things (eggs, pancakes, etc) but she is so set in her routine that she just wants the usual breakfast every morning.
  • Breakfast is usually an Earth's Best blueberry waffle or french toast, a piece of cinnamon swirl toast, an english muffin, eggs, yogurt, cheerios, etc.  The boys always get a sippy of water with their breakfast.
