Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Moving over a little early and a night weaning question

Hi Everyone,

DD will be 9 months on Friday and I am ready to move over to this board since I relate more to these posts than the 6-9 board.

Anyway, here's my question, and I know it's been asked before. How did you wean the night feeding? DD wakes up once to eat...she chows down a bottle and is immediately asleep afterward. How did weaning work for you? I am worried that she will never stop waking up to eat and will be over a year old with this still going on!

Re: Moving over a little early and a night weaning question

  • What time does she wake up? Is it in the middle of the night?

There are a few Baby Wise tips for dropping the dream feed (usually around 10 or before you go to bed). One is slowly decrease the amount in the bottle. This is working for us pretty well. The other is keep pushing the feeding up until it is so close to the bedtime bottle that it is useless. And the other is just go cold-turkey and see if they sleep through it. But since this is her waking instead of you getting her up, that might not work. But you could try giving her a paci and trying to soothe her back to sleep. I think with our LOs it is just habit to wake up so sometimes this works.

We don't wake them anymore and half the time they STTN and the other half of the time they wake for it anyway. In which case, we try to paci first and if that doesn't work, we do a partial bottle and kiss them night night. DD doesn't eat much during the day so when she wakes, she almost always needs a bottle.
