Bassinets and Cradles? Recs and Weight Limits

We are planning on using either a bassinet or a cradle for the first few months, hoping that we can sell our apartment before LO would need a crib.  But most of the bassinets I'm seeing have a weight limit of 15 lbs.  That seems really low and like LO will outgrow it super fast.  Most of the cradles I've seen online don't list a weight limit.  Does anyone know of a good cradle or bassinet with a higher weight limit?

If they're all around the same, can you please just recommend the one you like?  Thanks!

Re: Bassinets and Cradles? Recs and Weight Limits

  • We have a 2BR apartment, and for the first three months DS slept in our room in the bassinet part of the PnP.  He was a big boy from day one, but it still took him awhile to outgrow the bassinet part (at his 4 month checkup he was 26 inches and weighed 16lbs, 7oz).

On his 3 month birthday, we officially moved him into his crib in his own room.  When he was about 2.5 months, he started to really move around in his sleep, and he just wasn't as comfortable as he could be.  Once we moved him over, his sleep improved immediately.  He slept much more soundly and had room to scoot around.

Every LO is different, and it's impossible to say what your LO will prefer/like.  That being said, I wouldn't spend too much money on a bassinet or cradle.  If you're buying/registering for a PnP with a bassinet part, I would just try that first, and if that doesn't work, then look into other options.  HTH!!

  • Thanks!  Very helpful.
  • We got a Babi Italia cradle for our room. We planned on getting a bassinet, but we got this for the same price and the weight limit is slightly higher and it looks nicer.

I believe the weight limit is 18lbs.

  • Land of Nod Bassinet (comes with bedding). Weight limit is 18 lbs., but it is very sturdy and of very high quality. Doubles as a toy chest when the baby is older.
