I need some help -- NBR

DH should be returning in the fall from Iraq, so Curly and I are making plans to fly to our new duty station to set up our house before he arrives.  I bought a ticket to fly from here to there earlier this year because the fare was really cheap and I was told that if I needed to change it, the fee for changing the ticket was only $50.  However, now that I NEED to change the ticket, they are telling me the fee is $150 plus the difference in ticket price.  That's over $200, plus the $120 I already paid for the original ticket.  I told the woman that I had been told before that the fee was $50, and she said "well, I don't know where you got that from, the fee has been $150 forever."

I am soo angry and don't know what to do.  We can't afford another $200 toward a ticket.  But I have to change the ticket.  I need my flight about a month and a half earlier and departing from a different state.  What can I do, aside from just paying all those fees?

Re: I need some help -- NBR

  • Did you try the military angle?  Sometimes there's a military discount or they're willing to help you out because of the military connection.  It doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot. Sometimes all it takes is getting a sympathetic agent on the phone.

  • Yep, I tried that.  No sympathy at all!!

  • try speaking to a supervisor, if you get your husbands orders they should def wave the fee...stick to your guns and keep fighing them on it
  • I would start by emailing the airline.  This way you have something in writing if they try to go back on it.

I would give them specific information in the email, find your credit card statement and quote the exact day and time when the purchase was made.

Give them speicifcs about when your husbandis returning, why you need to change the flight, your husband's deployment, etc.  The more infformation you give them the better.

Address the email to the highest person whose email address you can find, and then cc it to every other email address you can find.
