North Dakota Babies

When was your first OB visit?

Since I moved across the country about 4 days after I found out I was PG, I'm obviously going to a new doctor this time around.  I called them last week to set up an appointment and they said they schedule the first appointment between 8-10 weeks (I think - I've already forgotten Embarrassed )

So, the first day they could get me in is June 30, which happens to be Caroline's birthday.  This will put me at about 9 1/2 weeks.  I can't remember when I first saw the doctor with my first pregnancy.

Just curious what your timeframe was?

I know I'm just being a big baby, but I really was hoping to get in sooner!

  • I think I was right at 10 weeks. Seems normal :) The wait sucks!

  • I have to agree with all of you - the wait does suck!!!!!

I am excited about this doctor though.  He came highly recommend by a number of ATL bumpies.  Sounds like his office is very high tech.  This will be a nice change from my last doc.  I felt like her office was so low tech.  No u/s machine - I always had to go to another place for that.  Plus, I never really liked her.  I am soooo hoping that I click better with this doc.

  • I think my first appt was around 5-6 weeks.
  • My first appt was at 5 weeks and than again at 8 weeks
  • My 1st appt was at 5 weeks, and we had our first u/s at 6 weeks, 5 days.  I know that's WAY earlier than most of my friend's OBs got them in. Waiting is torture.
  • I think my first appt was around 9 weeks
  • 9 weeks....i agree it sux
  • With Rowen I didn't see one until 12 weeks.  This time they had me come in at 8 weeks.

  • I went around 5 weeks and again at 9 weeks.  I think the 5 week appointment was more to confirm the pregnancy.
  • I called when I was 4 weeks along and they wanted to see me around 7 weeks but I was going to be on my honeymoon so I waited until 8.5 weeks.
  • I went in at 6 weeks and then at 7 due to changing OBs. I've heard that 8-10 weeks is common.
  • My OB does them between 6-8 weeks

  • in the 5th week, first u/s at 6wks, 6 days.

My tip to all my newly pg friends is to LIE and tell them you either (a) have no idea when your lmp was or (b) are farther along than you are to get seen sooner.  They aren't going to care once you are there, and if it gives you that much more peace of mind, so be it.  If they can't get you in sooner, then they can't, but its worth a try, right?

I like the way you think! Wish I had thought to do this.
  • A bit late on this one but I was a few days before 10 weeks.  It worked out well because I was still traveling back and forth from school to home and we were going to Vegas for a friend's wedding a few days after the doc's appt.  I did call if I had any questions although most things could be answered in books for the basic stuff.  When I called and mentioned I had a positive test, we did a quick run through of any meds I was taking just to make sure there wasn't something I needed to stop.  I ran across a poll/board similar to this one on BabyCenter and some girls were having fits if you went to see your OB as late as 8-10 weeks because how otherwise are they going to know things are ok?  I asked my OB's office about it (out of curiosity more than anything) and they said it was related to the fact that they really didn't want people coming in too early, getting their hopes up, and then having a miscarriage.  Your rate of miscarriage drops dramatically after 10-12 weeks.  I think for me if I had had an early ultrasound at 6 weeks, heard the heartbeat and then had a miscarriage I'd be more upset than if I hadn't heard the heartbeat just because you feel like it's confirmation that everything will be fine.  Sometimes ignorance is bliss, but that's obviously up to each person's opinion.
