I'm getting mixed information--some say white some say yolks, some say give the baby the whole egg...which is it?  so far no allergies with DS. can I give him scrambled eggs?

Re: scrambled eggs?

  • Our pedi said that it is alright to give DS the whole egg (yolks and whites) if it is completely cooked thru. ?He does not have any food allergies, and we have no allergies in our families either, so we dont' have to be as cautious as other people might have to be.

ETA: ?We got the go ahead for eggs at his 9 month appointment and have only given him scrambled eggs a couple of times. ?

  • I've heard egg yolk only at 9 mo and then the whole egg/egg whites at 12 mo. I've still yet to give DS any eggs.
  • Basil has had scrambled eggs. Our pedi just said no nuts(I'm VERY allergic to pecans, so we're waiting longer for ALL nuts, just in case), and no un-pasteurized honey. Everything else is fine as long as we only give her a little bit, and wait to make sure there is no reaction.

  • I would go with whatever your pedi recommends because they all say different stuff. Our Dr. said no eggs at all until 1 year, but I know other people's doctors have ok'ed eggs before then.
  • our doctor said no honey till 1 and that she could have everything else....honey? I dont remember the reason, :p

  • at 9 months, our pedi said no eggs at all.

but at 8 months, we gave him scrambled egg yolks and he did just fine, so i'm going to ignore her comment and just keep giving yolks, but no whites until a year.

she did say that baked goods with eggs are fine though.

there's a bacteria in honey that LOs have a hard time digesting and it can cause a lot of problems.

  • I pedi said eggs are just fine. Yolk and whites both. She said that she has attended quite a few seminars saying the whole egg is just fine and our pedi is very conservative. She did say no strawberries until 1 year, not even in jared food. We gave DD scrambled eggs on Sunday and she loved them.

You'll find on this board that there's a wide range of what pedis say no to regarding food.  It seems the only consensus, generally speaking, is peanut butter, nuts and honey.
