I didn't plan on moving my 15 month old boys to toddler beds for quite some time, but almost a month ago, their cribs were recalled. I called the company immediately to request the repair kits for the cribs and to make sure the rails were secure, we rigged the cribs to where the rails can't slide down. We never used the drop rails and I hate that I ever bought cribs that have them. Anyway, I ordered the kits, I've tried talking to people from the Lajobi recall, but after all this time, still no kits in the mail, even though they promised to rush me a kit because I told them that one of the rails had a broken piece I saw when I layed on the floor and looked under the crib (that about stopped my heart, how long had this been broken?- We never even lowered the rails). I'm sick of arguing with these people, and I'm sick of waiting.
I have been considering moving them to toddler beds. I know it is early, but we planned on moving them to toddler beds eventually. We had this in mind:
It has rails, and my boys are really good at getting on and off the couches and their beds. I just have mixed feelings on whether this would be a good decision. They just seem so young.
Is this crazy to even consider at this point? I don't feel right having them sleep in recalled cribs that we've rigged up so the side can't be lowered. I feel like we don't have any safe places for them to sleep other than buying them new beds.
Do you think this is the way to go? I've talked to my (parents of singletons) friends and they told me it is probably okay, but I've heard twins tend to stay in their cribs longer.
The boys are starting to climb and I'm just afraid that these cribs were not made to stand the test of time or toddlers.
So basically, am I crazy for even considering toddler beds at this point? What other options do I really have?
Re: Moving twins to toddler beds?
My mom had me in a toddler bed by then. She keeps reiminding me how I kept climbing out of the crib. But for a while she had me on the mattress on the floor with pillows around me (the mattress) and after a few nights of not rolling off she put me in the toddler bed. I was always really tall though so I was in a regular twin bed in no time.
