naps in cribs?

when is the best time to transition to this and any tips?  They don't take reliable naps now, but we have to start. Anyone have any good books on naps?  they take a morning nap in their bouncy seats, then s few little ones in the afternoon in swing or bassinets (that are in the main living area)

Re: naps in cribs?

  • I didn't start naps in cribs until they were about 9mo old... until then they didn't have naps at the same times- they were more scattered - and i'm lazy and didn't want to have to go up/down stairs all day long... so the napped in the livingroom on the couch together (with a big ottoman next to them to make it bigger... this was before they could crawl and didn't really move around much).

at 9mo when they started crawling and moving all over I started napping them in their cribs - they were also more consistant with naps then - napping at 9am and then again at 12:30pm - so it was easier for me to deal with the stairs :)

  • We started at 5.5 months and I think that was a bit overdue, for us.  I just plopped them in their cribs when they were def. ready.  I think they actually like it better b/c with 3 dogs, it is much quieter upstairs.

Do you have a video monitor?  that def. saved my sanity b/c I was able to  peek in on them without having to go upstairs and risk waking them up.

  • We are trying now but they aren't great at it.  I can get them to go down in the morning for an hour without too much of a problem.  The afternoon though is terrible.  They end up crying for 30 minutes and sleeping for about 30 minutes.  They would prefer to nap in their stroller on a walk.

  • we don't put them down in their cribs now...on the weekends and days off we all rest together for nap time...it is our super family cuddle time...or they nap in their stroller or wherever...they do sleep at dc in their pnps tho, which started between 8-10 months (b4 that they napped in their bouncy chairs)...

If you are going to be a SAHM, then I would probably start the transition around 6 months or sooner if a solid nap schedule appears...otherwise I wouldn't worry to much as their nap schedule will transition with dc...GL!

  • ours do at least one nap a day in their cribs - usually the long midday nap. Mornings and late afternoons are often spent on boppies, in swings, etc. We have a small house so it's no big deal to go back and forth to the nursery.

  • We have been putting them in their cribs for one long (2-3 hour) nap around 10 am since around 2 months.  The rest of the naps are in their bouncy seats.  The nursery is upstairs and a PITA to get to all day long for naps.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • We started putting them on the same nap schedule in their cribs at 4.5 months and it has worked out beautifully!  I love having an hour and a half mid day for piece and quiet!

  • We put our boys down for naps after every feeding.  Usually they nap for at least some part of it.  So I guess our feeding schedule sets up our nap schedule, for now.  However, they are napping in bouncy seats or swing for all of these daytime naps- we're bad about moving them to the crib after they fall asleep (apparently this is a good thing to do, transitionally).  I chalk it up to the fact that they have reflux and need to be upright for a while after feeding...a long while! ;)
