Ok so my daughters Dr said wait 6 weeks besides stuff that you must do- like food shopping.. I have friends who took their babies out at a few days old and think im nuts for following what the Dr said. I just started going on more errands with her but 1 a day and only to places i think won't be packed with people.. (she's 5 weeks tomorrow)..anyone like me- or is your baby going everywhere??
Re: taking baby out and about
I take Lily everywhere. I've been to family parties, grocery shopping, baby group, visiting work, friends houses etc. Unless your daughter was in the NICU or has any other underlining risk factors, I would go for it. I like my little outings, they keep me sane and ensure that at the very least my teeth get brushed on a daily basis lol
I asked my doctor about this, HE said the 6weeks rule is old school and hasn't proven to help keep the babies from getting sick. Hunter has been out and about almost every day since 4wks. It may just be a walk for an hour or maybe a whole day out and about..
On the other hand... I do not let people touch him or hold him unless I know them. Family is ok, but strangers.. No way... I never know what they have or where they have been. Just my thoughts.. But he'll be out and about in his car seat or in my arms almost every day. It will help with the transition to daycare too if you are going back to work.
I'm keeping my preemies home for at least 6 weeks. They are only going out for walks in the neighborhood, pedi's office, and grandparents' houses. Their immune systems are too weak to be around lots of people (born at 34 w, 5 d)
I would feel REALLY stupid if one got sick and had to be hospitalized just because I wanted to wander the aisles of Target.
This.
I mean, I live in Beijing, so there's not really anywhere I can go where there aren't tons of people around. I've even brought her to the local market, with hanging cows and pigs and live fish flopping about.
