Babies: 0 - 3 Months

2 Summer Questions: pools and bug repellent...

Ok, it is HOT today and I started thinking about how I would love to take DS to a pool this summer. However, he doesn't get his 8-week shots until next week. How long after that should I wait? And is it a bad idea in general to take a baby to a public pool because of the nasty germs and chemicals? Two, any good recommendations for effective, DEET-FREE bug repellent for LO? Happy Summer!

I was told that the water temp has to be between 84 and 87 degrees and the outside temp has to be 3 degrees warmer than that to go swimming. I live in FL where it's been upper 80's for the last month but I'm still not risking taking DD in my pool yet!

  • Public pools freak me out in general, but we have a pool at our house.  I have not taken DD in it yet.  DH and DS are out there now and I wish I was.  I just don't think the water is warm enough yet.  I would use Avon Skin so Soft for the bug repellent.
  • I asked my pedi about the pool today and she recommends waiting until 4-6 months.  She said her biggest concern is swimmers ear, but that it's very uncommon in infants.

  • I use this Avon stuff that my sister bought me that has sunscreen and bug repellent in it. I asked my pedi and she said anything over spf15 is good, but 30 is better. As far as the pool, I brought her in ours and she LOOOVED it.
