Soy and eczema

Anyone cut out soy and notice a change in their LO's eczema?  My daughter has a confirmed dairy allergy (soy tested negative), but I am wondering if my soy intake is making her eczema so bad.  Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this?  Thanks!

Re: Soy and eczema

  • Where did you hear about a link between soy and eczema? DS has had some weird eczema/skin rash type stuff since birth and we can't figure out what's causing it. I drink soy milk though so maybe I should cut that out? We haven't tested him for allergies yet
  • Eczema can be triggered by something in your diet if you are breastfeeding.  Dairy and soy are two of the most likely foods that can cause it.  I am thinking that even though my daughter tested negative to soy allergies, she probably does have one.  She was tested at 3 months old, so the test may not have been conclusive due to her age.

If you google food allergies and eczema, there is a lot of information out there.  Here is just one link.

  • I'm curious how your LO was tested. We were told that the way to test our LO for the milk allergy was a colonoscopy which would be painful for our child. We were told today to either switch to formula or eliminate dairy and soy from my diet. The more I read the more I'm questioning this.

What kind of formula would they have you switch to? Formula is dairy or soy based right? What else would you give LO?

Hypoallergenic formulas, such as Similac Alimentum.

A pediatric allergist tested her with a skin and blood test.  I would call a pediatric allergist instead of going through your pedi.
