Dumb question for daycare moms

If you don't pack a full diaper bag for LO everyday what do you carry bottles back and forth in?  The "bottle bags" I've seen only hold 1 or 2 or at most 3 bottles.  They are too small, but a diaper bag seems awfully big...

Re: Dumb question for daycare moms

  • I know it is not what you are asking but I just bring the diaper bag back and forth everyday.  Nothing changes in the bag from day to day other than the bottles.  It is bigger than I need but it is such a short distance that I have to carry it.
  • I use the bottle bag that came with my breast pump.  I recently saw an insulated lunch bag at Kroger that I almost bought for this purpose.  I may go back and get it.  It was in the seasonal items aisle.

  • I did carry bottles back and forth in a soft-sided Igloo cooler that was big enough to hold a 6pk.  However, the daycare had a fridge in every room so it really wasn't necessary.

  • We came home with some free cheapy Similac "diaper bag" from the hospital.  We just used that.  Then, I would put the pre-made bottles (usually 4) in a gallon size ziploc and put it in there with extra change of clothes and a pacifier.  My DC was only 2 miles away, so as soon as I got there, they would put everything in the fridge.

This is my issue, I don't need a cooler, they have a fridge.  I don't need a diaper bag because they will store diapers, clothes etc in the room.  I am just trying to figure out what kind of bag to use to carry things back and forth everyday.

What about a paper shopping bag with handles?  Like you'd get at Nordstrom, James Avery, Sephora, something like that?  I mentioned those stores b/c theirs are stiff paper and will hold up for a while.  You're recycling, and then when they wear out just dig up another.

Our DC stored everything on site, too - but most people who brought their kids still brought a bag - just for ease to throw it over the shoulder.  It also helps if there is a blow out and they need to give dirty clothes back to you, you don't really want to be carrying those out the door.  Or, if they have done any "art" projects they will send home in the bag - and probably include a daily activity sheet.  Or if you need to give new clothes to them, etc.  Any old bag would do if you already have something, it doesn't have to be a "diaper bag".

If you don't want to carry anything in, I would just do the gallon ziploc bag thing.  It carries 4 bottles (we had the skinny Dr. Browns), you can put the name on the outside and re-use if you want, and it's just a one handed thing.

That's what I've been putting bottles in to go to and from my mom's house, but I've run out of paper bags.  I was thinking I'd find a more permanent solution, but maybe I just need to go shopping more.  Big Smile

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.  I think that's really what I was wondering, whether I would need a regular sized bag anyway.  I'll dig around at home, I might have an old messenger bag.

This is a good point.  Also once your LO starts to eat solids the bag really helps to carry the food in etc.

  • I send a small backpack on Mon with clothes and extras (diaper cream, orajel, etc)

I have a bottle bag that holds 3 of them and I send 3 6oz bottles.

  • We used the Similac bag from the hospital.
