If there is a reason I shouldn't be giving them to Monk I want to know! Aside from the processed foods/sugar argument. TIA!
LOL. I think this is the reason people don't.
I'm pretty picky about DD's food, but when I have a crabby baby, I'll gladly give her an artificial cracker chocked full of sugar if it will appease her. Nothing wrong with it at times like this, I say!
I only don't give them because he chokes on anything hard still. And I prefer for my LO's to not snack on processed foods like cookies & crackers. When he gets old enough to handle harder foods we will do fresh fruits and veggies but I don't have any problem with anyone who does give them to their kids.
I think that post was poorly worded to be honest. I took it more as what things are popular on The Bump that you don't do. Not necessarily bad things.
Want-Want Foods understands and shares everyones concern over
the recent issues with melamine-tainted milk powder from China.
The premium quality skim milk powder used in Baby Mum-Mum is imported
from New Zealand and has been tested to be free of melamine
contamination by SGS, a
worldwide authority on food safety.
In addition, authorities in China have been testing each batch of
Baby Mum-Mum with negative results. In Canada, Baby Mum-Mum has been
tested by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and in the US by
the Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA).
For further assurances, we have contracted independent laboratories
for testing in Canada. All completed testing, as anticipated, has come
back negative for melamine.
Our Organic Baby Mum-Mum and Organic Toddler Mum-Mum products do not
contain any skim milk powder.
I don't really have a problem with mum mums, but I think they're kind of unnecessary as are most baby snacks. We just give DS things that we eat also. Cheerios are a big hit with him.
I think there's definitely a convenience factor with the baby snacks, but I don't feel that it's very inconvenient to make regular food baby appropriate either.

I'm still not buying them and I have my reasons. It's not about the milk from China. Kroger used to sell cookies from China and they were recalled for lead or something like that.
I take that back. I looked it up and it was the milk powder in those too.

The food safety system in China is a JOKE. It is extremely corrupt and problems keep resurfacing. The FDA does not do near enough testing for me to feel at all ok giving my kids food manufactured in China.

this. Heck the FDA can't even make sure infants tylenol and mortin are safe. I'm not trusting them on this one.
We stopped using them once she moved up to more finger foods... they were never messy for us! I think because DD woudlcram them in her mouth so fast... (in our house we call them surf boards)
Re: Seriously, what is wrong with Mum-Mums?
WHAT! Really, is this something new I missed?
I feed them to DS, so I don't have a problem with them.
However, a friend of mine bought a case of them, then threw them out when she saw they were made in China.

I didn't know we weren't supposed to be giving them...
DD has one every couple of days. It's not like she's having a box per day. Everything in moderation.
This.
I wondered the same thing. I think it is that they are made in China.

Evie loves them!
Although, I have to get on MIL's case a lot because every time I turn around she's handing one to her!
