If you had PTL signs?

So, I've read about the PTL signs...constant lower back pain, pressure down there, watery discharge, etc.  The three I listed bother me most since i have them now and didn't with my first (at least not to this level).  I've also heard so many stories where they didn't know they were having contractions, etc. The thing is the signs sound the same a regular pregnancy issues everyone has.  I'm not sure how to distinguish the difference.

What were PTL signs and when did you consider calling, etc.? Or did the OB just sort of stumble upon contractions during tests, etc.?.

Re: If you had PTL signs?

  • I was told to call if more than every 8-10 minutes.  Over the past two week, with all the craziness I've gone through, I would say if you are in doubt call your doctor.  They are there to listen and be the ones to decide if you should go to L&D.  I think I would rather go to L&D and be sent home with nothing than have something going on and be at home with no medical attention.

  • It's tough knowing exactly when to call.  If you question it enough....I'd just call.  I was having tetanic contractions that last for over an hour and they wouldn't go away.  I was also having worsening back pain.  They squeezed me into the doc's office (much better than going to L&D) and my cervix had shortened significantly in 6 days.  That was three weeks ago and I've been on bedrest ever since.  I truly understand having the debate when/if to call.  Calling never hurts and will give you peace of mind.
