The poll below reminded me ... when I tell ppl that I work from home, I think most automatically think that my kids are right there with me. No way in hell could I manage that!
When I telecommuted, one of the requirements was to have childcare during working hours.
Now that I freelance/do my own thing, people do assume I must do most of my stuff with the kids around me. There's no way. I do it when they're at school or asleep. I don't just turn on the TV, as most people assume. If I'm going to do that, I'd rather go back to work FT and get a nanny since I wouldn't feel like I was parenting anyway.
I would imagine only people that have never worked OR had kids can believe that's feasible. Any one that has ever had a job knows it can not be done. And anyone who has ever had a child...DITTO.
Yes...people totally have the wrong perception. ?In order for me to work from home I must have a babysitter here during my work hours. ?It would be IMPOSSIBLE to work without them.
Yep, that's what everyone thinks about me, too. There's no way. I dread the days when DS is sick and has to be home with me while I try to work. It's impossible.

Everyone, including my job, knew my kids were home with me. Depends on the job-it can be done. I had a very flexible schedule though and could make up at night what didn't get done during the day.
As parents we all know that you cannot get anything done with the kids at home. At my former place of employment, there were two women who worked from home and did not have daycare. They were part time and I still think that they were just scamming the company.

If I had my kids at home with me while I did my job, I'd be fired.
That said, if my kid is sick, I can probably still get half a day in (which is acceptable to my company).
