Postpartum Depression

PPA

I think I may have it, chest pains, anexity, shortness breath, and just plain irritable and sad! If you are diagnosed with PPA, what is your treatments?

Re: PPA

  • My psychiatrist just added Buspar to my regular Pristiq. It's been 3 days so I can't tell how well it works yet. I've had racing thoughts, waking up from sleep and am quickly wound up too much to sleep again, if I do sleep again then I am up within an hour again, and extremely irritable. I have had marginal luck trying to replay movie scenes or parts of books in my mind since I read and watch movies to relax. It works about 25% of the time...it works if I can make myself focus longer than a few seconds.

  • I went to my OB first who then referred me to a psychiatrist. The psych evaluated me and had me try zoloft. That didn't work, so the next medicine we tried was lexapro (which worked beautifully). I felt normal, and after a month, she cut my dose in half. I've been doing well on that, so next week we'll cut the dose in half again. Eventually, I'll be weaned off completely.

Homebird, you give me hope.  What did your anxiety feel like?  Did you wake with it? Were you nervous-like?  I can't hardly eat, just nervousness that never goes away really.  Thanks again.

  • Started on 10 mg lexapro, and now I'm down to 5 mg. I love it! No side effects for me at all, and I feel normal.
