Cosleeping Mamas Bedtime Routine?

We are still in the newborn phase so I am not sure when we should start getting into a system for bed. Right now, LO is with us for all "naps" (worn, held or in bassinet near by.) We usually go up to bed around 10 or so, change, nurse, etc. and then put her down in cosleeper. She is usually up 2-3 hours later to nurse and then down for 4-5 hours after that. I am wondering what does nighttime look like for you? Do you go up with LO, put them down and then go up later? When did you start? Thanks!!???

Re: Cosleeping Mamas Bedtime Routine?

  • We all go to bed together...we started a nighttime routine about a month ago and it's changed somewhat, but it's basically: warm bath, potty, diaper/jammies, story, nurse in bed.  I don't think he "noticed the routine" until a couple of weeks ago when I had to work late 3 nights in a row and Daddy put him to bed....he was completely unphased by my absence and went right down.

  • Bath, diaper/jammies, nurse. He usually goes down around 7:30, but he won't sleep in his crib or in bed alone, so I hold him. Like clockwork, he gets up around 10:30pm and that's when we all go to bed. He gets nursed down then as well. He is still getting up every 2 hours at night, but I nurse side lying and we both fall back to sleep quickly.

  • We start at 8:30 every night so we can all go to bed together and DH bathes, puts on jammies then I nurse. He is usually done by 10 and we all go to bed together. If it's the weekend and we want to stay up later one of us holds him till we go to sleep or we put him in his FP newborn rock and play sleeper (only thing other than us he will sleep in) and keep him with us till we go to bed.

At 6 We brush DS' gums, wash hands/face, play in his crib, read a few books, then rock and cuddle.  I nurse DS to sleep around 7.  I stay in bed with him for about an hour and then go down for 1-2 hours.  We just started this about 2 weeks ago.  Before then we were holding him and laying him on the couch and then going up all together.  So far it's working great.

  • We didn't start any kind of bedtime routine until about 4 months. Up until then DS pretty much nursed every 1-3 hours and only catnapped. I did not have the energy to do any kind of routine.
