So the Kirby salesman vacuumed and shampooed my rug

And I really wanted that damn vacuum.  He really sold me on it.  You should have seen all the dirt that came up and I had vacuumed yesterday.

*Sigh*  DH wouldn't let me get it.  It was $1200!  Can you believe that?

I'm wondering if that machine is really worth it though.  Does anyone have one?  Was the salesman full of sh!t?

  • My co-worker told me today she is trying to sell hers (her kids are grown and she doesn't have pets so she doesn't feel she needs it anymore since it doesn't get much use.) I totally wish I had a few hundred spare dollars.

  • Google Kirby Vacuums- it is a big scam, be glad you didn't waste your money.
  • My aunt has one. She got hers 23 years ago and it was only repaired like 7 times. This last time it went in for repairs they sent her a new one and only charged her shipping. If i had the $$$ to spend on any vacuume, it would be a Meile. Those are amazing!

Everyone I've talked to who has one has had theirs for years and years and loves them.

  • My mom and sister both have Kirby's and looove them. I would never spend the money on one though.
  • My Nana, Aunt, and cousins have them and love them. I can't even get DH to buy me a Dyson so there is NO WAY in hell he'd agree to a kirby.
  • I dont understand what you mean by scam?

I know someone who's had one for years and it still works. my ex used to be one of those door-to-door salesguys and we used his demo vacuum to clean our carpet, couch, and bed. it was insane. the house just smelled fresher after! lol

  • Maybe scam was the wrong word- more like a company that has unsavory business practices that I do not support. They do have a great product, there is really no need for their pushy sales tactics and their disgusting excuse for customer service. They swindeled my 85 year grandmother who has dimensia out of $2000 and esentially would not leave her house until she bought a vacuum and scared the hell out of her. Then, when we tried to get her money back their customer service was completely non-responsive. If you look at their information on Google or BBB you will see they have a horrible reputation.

  • I worked for Kirby for a while, and I will agree that I do NOT like their sales tactics.  They are extremely pushy (however, each branch is owned by a different individual so I'm sure they are not all like that.)  However, their vacuum/shampooer is AMAZING!  Also, in some cases, you can talk them down.  When I started, we were able to give a discount (I think it was only like $200 or so) but they had a lifetime repair option and also there was a 7 year replacement option so if there is a fire or the vacuum is destroyed, they will replace it.  It did make me super freaked out about anything cloth though because I know that my regular vacuum is NOT getting it clean!  :(
