Home oxygen needs

I was wondering how long it took for your LO's that came home on O2 to come off completely. Give me hope. It makes everything so much work when you are dragging cords around everywhere. I was trying to wait for professional photos to be taken when he came off the oxygen but now I am rethinking that.

Re: Home oxygen needs

  • Lily did not need it, but my nephew who was born at 27 weeks came home on it.  He was on it for 3 months, but he had terrible lung problems.

Keira came home the end of July on 1/8 liter.  December she was weaned down to O2 only while sleeping.  By March I didn't use it during naps (used pulse ox to monitor) and tried a few nights without.  By April (she was now one) we still had it in the house and slept with the pulse ox, but we only had one scare when I put her back on the O2.  I'm pretty sure it was a fluke though.  She had a sleep study in June and she was "officially" discharged from the O2.  So for us........a year of O2 use.

  • stella has crap lungs & was on home O2 for about 4 months (came home on 1/4 ltr).
  • Aiden has been home 7 weeks and it is not looking like he will come off any time soon. He is only on 1/8th liter so all the doctors insisted he would have come off after less than a month of being home yet here we are. I think I am going to just go ahead and do family portraits now and do a celebratory photo session when he come off.

  • Chelsea was on it for 3 weeks and then we were given the okay to start to wean her off.  Then 3 weeks later she was completely taken off.  So about a month and a half.
