We have her 6 month appointment tomorrow and I am seriously questioning whether or not to give her the third and final dose of the rotavirus vaccine. My reasons for not wanting to give it to her are:
1. The recall of the other rotavirus vaccine after contamination with a pig virus was discovered recently (There are 2 different kinds. She didn't have the contaminated one before, but it still scares me.)
2. Rotavirus vaccine has only been out since 2006. This is a very new vaccine and the one that came out in 1999 led to serious problems and the end of the vaccines use until the current version.
3. Rotavirus itself seems to be something that most/all children and adults will experience anyway. Handwashing is the best way to prevent the spread and contamination.
4. She must have some protection from the first 2 doses.
5. Her little digestive system has finally matured enough to handle me eating dairy again and I think the last dose caused her to have green poop for about a week. I don't want to irritate her digestive system.
What do you think? What would you do?

Our pedi said it doesn't stop the LOs from getting the virus but it does lessen the severity of the symptoms.
Ours gives 3 doses and the boys had no issues with any of them.
From my experience with my first... my DS was soooooo sick for at least a week which I had to hold him and console him and deal with the stinky poop and vomit and it was REALLY yucky to then my DH caught it from him and ended up passing out twice (falling to the floor with a thump!) and being taken by ambo to the hospital for dehydration because he was pooping and vomiting so much that he couldn't keep up with the fluids.... there was no way I'd skip it. I was so relieved to hear that there was a vaccine. Just my experience though.
we all had it, passed it to my in laws, my father in law actually saw his cardiologist as he though he threw off his electrolytes enough to cause him heart issues... my LO, while probably the carrier, had ZERO symptoms.
also, most of daycare had it, several babies were dangerously ill, and I saw what our hospital admissions were like as it went though most of the local school systems.
next time, I'm licking the bulb syringe, if they let me. it was amazing to see how healthy he was, considering how HORRIBLY ill everyone else was.
